Dennis Mark Newell, 67, of Smithfield, VA, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025. He was the son of Phyllis Quackenbush Newell and the late David Earl Newell. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Lori Gibreal Newell; daughter, Marni Newell; sons, Nathan Newell (Adelle), Jarad Newell (Jennifer), Joseph Gay (Mallory) and Sean Gay; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Shain, Emmet, Alice, Calvin, Charles, George, and Joseph; sister, Amy Newell (Javier); brother, Leon Newell (Laurie); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Braedden.

Dennis proudly served in the USMC for more than twenty years. He was an avid hunter. He loved boating and fishing. And he was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Lions football team.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, 2 p.m. at Believers Church, 6801 Bridgeway Dr, Suffolk, VA 23435. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 5 to 6 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA. Burial will take place in West Reading Cemetery, 10160 Reading Rd, Reading, MI 49274.
