Charles "Tink" Walter Marshall, born June 13, 1941, the second son of late Nellie Minga Marshall and Ray Parker Marshall Sr., passed away on September 28, 2024. Tink graduated from Smithfield High School in 1959, where he was an outstanding baseball player. After high school he farmed then was later drafted into the Vietnam War. During that time, he served in Germany and then dedicated four years to the Reserves.
After the war, he founded “Marshall Brothers, Inc.” with his older brother, Ray Jr. Together they farmed nearly 2000 acres in lower Isle of Wight County. Later the two brothers became part owners of “Smithfield Livestock, Inc.” This was the foundation of Tink’s career into Trucking, as he began hauling livestock across the East Coast and Midwest.
They went on to establish Jones Creek Landing Mobile Home Community. However, Tink continued trucking, hauling shipping containers for nearly 20 years. Afterwards, he went on to drive for Bulk Freight Inc. hauling liquids across the Northeast and Canada before retiring with a career of over three-million-miles. Throughout his whole life, Tink carried a love for horses, baseball and western novels.
He leaves this world to join his wife Linda Lester Marshall and step grandson Wesley Goins. He is survived by his brother Ray Parker Marshall Jr., and stepchildren, Robbie Goins, Carl Beisel, and Karlina Bittner and nephews David, Phillip (Michelle), and John (Eva).
The family would like to thank Sallie Massenburg for Tink’s health and comfort this last year.
