Charles Lawrence Ross, 83, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on May 16, 2021. He was the son of the late Charles Howard Ross and Martha Teibel Ross. He is survived by his daughters, Diana Harris (John), Michelle Windsor (Philip) and Sherree Setzer (Jeff); grandchildren, Nicole, William, Alexandra, Ross, Scott, Noelle, Emily, Mary, Paul, Thomas, Karol, Sean, Jeff, Chris, Travis and Brian; great grandchildren, Raegan, Rylan, Alexandra, William, Oliver and Henry; and his brother, Cliff Ross. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandy Godfrey, and his brother, Leon Ross. Mr. Ross was born and raised in Akron, Ohio; upon graduating high school he joined the U S Navy, where he served for five years as a Communications Technician. After leaving the Navy he worked in communications for the CIA until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed competitive running, competing in many marathons, including the Boston Marathon, the Marine Corp Marathon, and many other prestigious races. He was also a past president of the National Capitol Track Club (GNATS) where he was lovingly referred to as the “Big Gnat”. He was an avid exercise enthusiast and always up for a challenge. He also loved the beach, playing golf, and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021, 1 p.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, VA. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com. Floral arrangements are being accepted at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA, through Thursday, May 20, 2021, for transport to the cemetery in Culpeper, VA.
