Charles David Jones

Charles David Jones, 89, of Isle of Wight, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. He was the son of the late David Lafayette Jones and Lois Helen Robertson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joanne Darden Jones. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Smith (Mitch), Robin Hutchinson (Max), Nancy Wagers (Jim), Billie Joanne Jones, and Jennifer Johnson (Matt); Nineteen grandchildren; Twenty-four great grandchildren; sisters, Anne Harvey (Ronnie) and Carolyn Gianettino (Dave); brothers, Cecil Jones, Glenn Jones and Donnie Jones (Jackie). He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Rees; son in laws, Steve Rees and Brian Dimos; and sister in laws, Evelyn Jones and Selma Jones.

David was a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, raised on the family farm in Zuni, he graduated from Smithfield High School and married Joanne Darden to whom he was fully devoted for nearly 60 years. Together they raised their six daughters.

Following high school, he joined the U S Army Reserves, where he served for five years. He worked for Gwaltney Meat Packing Company for over thirty years until his retirement. David was known to be a local historian and enjoyed sharing his history of the county with others, especially sharing his love and appreciation for local agriculture.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 11 a.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA with burial to follow in Mill Swamp Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donation be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
