Catherine Louise Marvin of Smithfield passed away peacefully on December 18th, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was the daughter of the late Allan and Ruth Morgan and lived a life marked by deep devotion to her family, compassion, and remarkable strength. Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved son Allan Marvin, whose memory remained forever close to her heart.
Cathy worked in a group home for NY state for 32 years where her compassion and gentle heart touched countless lives. Caring for others was part of who she was. She had a special place in her heart for children and adults with disabilities, a love shaped by her own journey as a mother and grandmother.
Catherine was a proud and devoted mother of two children, her daughter Danielle who loved her more than anything and her beloved son Allan who passed away at the age of 6. She is forever survived by her loving husband, Roy, her daughter Danielle (Mustapha) and her three treasured grandchildren, Maya, Adam and Elie who loved and cherished her and were a constant source of joy and pride. She loved them all with a fierceness and tenderness that knew no limits. She is also survived by her sister Christine Lauzon (Terry), her niece Ashleigh Welsh (Brandon, Harlan, Taylah, Marrah), her nephew Corey Petrie, along with other family and dear friends.
For 48 years, Cathy and her husband, Roy, shared an unbreakable love, a love that was steady, patient, kind and full of warmth. Through every joy and every hardship, they stood side by side, creating a life rooted in love, family, and unwavering commitment that will never be lost.
Cathy was one of the most loving and selfless people you could ever meet—someone who would truly give you the shirt off her back. Cathy had a beautiful way of making everyone feel loved, special, and truly heard. Her kindness was constant, her love unconditional, and her presence comforting.
What she always told her grandkids says everything about who she was: “I love you more than the whole world, the moon, the stars, the sun, and the sky—bunches and bunches.” Those words will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved her and will continue to be a reminder of the immense love she gave so freely.
Catherine leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and endless love. Though she will be deeply missed, her love will live on forever through her family, friends, and all the lives she touched.
The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 1:00pm on Tuesday December 23rd, 2025 followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm at Smithfield Baptist Church in Smithfield, Virginia. Burial will follow in St Luke's Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Operation Christmas Child (OCC) of Smithfield Baptist Church. Cathy always sponsored a child in memory of her son Allan which is something that was always very near and dear to her heart. Please make checks payable to Smithfield Baptist Church with OCC in the memo line.
