On Wednesday, December 31, 2025 Carroll Vernon Hubbard left this life when his long-time battle with congestive heart failure came to an end.
Carroll, who was the youngest of five children originally grew up in the small community of Cuckoo, VA in Louisa County. As a young man, Carroll attended and graduated from Louisa County High School. Growing up in such a small community most certainly prepared him for the life he loved in Smithfield, VA where he and his wife of 51 years, Ann Hubbard, operated an art gallery in their Main Street home.
In his spare time, Carroll loved the outdoors, working with his hands, taking care of the many family animals, and reading. One of his absolute favorite things to do was to sit on his front porch and greet friends and customers as they made their way through the gallery.
He was a well-loved man who was surrounded by many good neighbors who he considered to be great friends. Carroll was a man of tradition and he firmly believed in family first.
He is survived by his son Travis Sams, his son Alan Sams (Erin Sams), along with his three grandchildren Christopher, Carter, and Abby Sams. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn Osbourne. He was proceeded in death by his wife Ann Hubbard, his daughter Dale Sams, his mother and father Myrtle and Franklin L Hubbard, his brothers Franklin and Curtis Hubbard, and his sister Thelma Satterwhite.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 2:00PM at the Christ Episcopal Church 111 S Church St, Smithfield, VA 23430 In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the American Heart Association on his behalf.
