Carolyn Ingram Pittman

February 13, 1951 — July 20, 2022

Carolyn Pittman passed away peacefully on July 20, 2022 with her husband of 51 years at her side. She was born in Newport News where she lived before moving to Battery Park with her husband in 1982. She graduated from Warwick High School in 1969. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother. She leaves her husband Buddy Pittman, sisters-in-law Diane Coombs, Laura Pittman, nieces Shelly (Greg) and Lexie Veith and numerous nieces and nephews, longtime friends Gigi, Dale, Jody, Keith, Joan, Tom and a host of friends to mourn her passing. She and Buddy loved many small dogs over the years, their devotion for their pets enriched their lives. Carolyn worked as a restaurant server, Manager of Tape City and she was assigned to several stake outs as a Private Detective. Her career was in dentistry where she worked for many happy years, retiring from the practice of Dr. Mark Artzer in Newport News. She learned dental assisting chairside from Drs. Boatwright and Godby, both longtime dentists in Newport News. Their demand for excellence molded her into an extraordinary assistant with the skill to create dental prosthetics with exceptional precision, making thousands over the years. She accompanied Dr. Godby and others to the Phillipines with Operation Smile. She paid for the trip and her expenses from her hours and hours of crafting. With the help of Buddy, Carolyn fabricated almost enough “yard sheep” for the entire Peninsula and Isle of Wight. Their house on the river in Battery Park was always open to friends, enjoying countless hours on their dock. Together they decorated their house to the nines for every occasion and holiday. Every. Single. One. Carolyn is remembered for her loving and considerate nature. She learned early that you pay your kindness forward and not wait until it is too late. A Memorial Service will be held at Little’s Funeral Home on Thursday, July 28 at 6:00 pm, visitation with the family following the service. Burial will be private. The family requests contributions to Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department or Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
