Carolyn Martin Gleason

Carolyn Martin Gleason, 90, of Hertford, NC, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Albert Conrad Buppert and Mildred Elizabeth Griffin Buppert. She was also preceded in death by her first husband of 45 years, William Henry “Bud” Martin, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Martin Marshall; son, William Henry Martin, Jr (Joyce); grandchildren, Dana Monds (William), Jessie Murphy (Dan), Jordan Marshall and Mitchell Martin; great grandchildren, Natalie Murphy, Lauren Murphy, Cameron Murphy, Ben Monds, Graham Monds, and Garrett Monds. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Francis “Frank” J. Gleason, Jr; a sister, Ida Sacre; and brothers, Frank Buppert, Albert “Granville” Buppert and George Buppert.

Mrs. Gleason was a feisty Southern Woman, who loved her family and her church. She spent many years participating in the Choir, the United Methodist Women, and Vacation Bible School at Riverview UMC. She enjoyed traveling and taking trips to Florida. She loved playing Rummikub and lunch dates with friends at the Chamberlain. And to attend dances and karaoke at the CB Club in Hampton, VA.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, 11 a.m. at Riverview UMC, Rescue. Burial will be at a later date in St. Luke’s Memorial Park, Smithfield, VA.
