Carlton Earl Drewery, 78, of Ivor, VA, passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2025. He was born on April 4, 1948, in Isle of Wight, Virginia, to the late Mark and Nellie Drewery.
A proud graduate of Smithfield High School, Class of 1966, Carlton went on to complete his training at the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School, graduating in 1971. He dedicated over four decades of service to Newport News Shipbuilding (later Huntington Ingalls), retiring in 2014 as an Engineering Designer. Over the years, he formed lifelong friendships with many of his colleagues.
Carlton was predeceased by his parents, his sister Vivian Fitchett, and his brother Ronald Drewery.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Lola; his children: Travis Drewery (Susan), Michael Drewery and Stacy Cockram (Jimmy); and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including granddaughter Olivia Drewery. He is also survived by nephews Mark Mumford (Lisa) and Paul Mumford (Diana) and his beloved cat, Wiggles.
Carlton had a true gift for cooking – whether it was a home-cooked meal, baked goods, or his famous barbeque, he found joy in feeding his family and friends. Music was another passion; he loved picking his guitar and spending time with fellow musicians, whether playing or listening.
He was deeply loved by all who knew him, and his quiet strength, warm humor, and generous heart will be missed beyond measure.
A memorial service to celebrate Carlton’s life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Little’s Funeral Home located at 1515 South Church St in Smithfield, VA.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Carlton’s memory to Isle of Wight Animal Services, 13044 Poorhouse Rd., Windsor, VA 23487 or American Cancer Society, c/o Pam Jordan, 18214 Farmview Lane, Windsor, VA 23487.
