Bonnie Jean Davis Peters Mathieu, 91, of Smithfield, Virginia passed away on September 3, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Delbert Davis and Tylee Burgess Davis. Mrs. Mathieu was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years John Lloyd Peters. She is survived by her daughters, L. Suzanne Voorhies(husband Walter); Jacqueline Ann Pierce(husband Jim); son, John S. Peters(wife Jennifer); grandchildren, Jeannette K. Voorhies, Jacqueline H. Voorhies, Angela M. Capps, Megan L. Walter, John S. Peters II ; great-grandchildren, Austin Churchwell, Jillian Churchwell, Holden Craig, Finley Craig, Kaylie Capps, Jerzi Walter, Jase Walter, Kenleigh Peters, Amelia Peters and her husband Paul Mathieu.
Bonnie has always been a strong woman with an unwavering commitment to her family. She and her husband, John Peters, lived in New Albany Indiana where Bonnie was active in community affairs and her church. She served as church organist until they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. In Indianapolis she was a director at the national Red Cross and continued to be active as a church organist. In 1967 the family returned to New Albany Indiana where Bonnie became a successful and respected real estate agent and also ran the family construction business designing, building and selling elegant homes. Bonnie and her husband retired to Florida where she was active in her retirement community management, loved to fish and taught line dancing in the community well into her eighties. After the death of her first husband, Bonnie moved to Smithfield Virginia to be closer to family. Bonnie passed into her eternal reward on Tuesday September 3, 2019 after a brief illness. Her family was with her during her final days.
Graveside services and burial will take place on September 9, 2019 at Kraft Graceland funeral home and cemetery in New Albany, Indiana at 11:00 am.
