Betty Askew Duell

Betty Lou Askew Duell, 82, of Battery Park, VA, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022.  She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Askew and Grace Alva Lilley Askew.  Mrs. Duell is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jesse “Jimmie” James Duell, Jr.; daughters, Julie Holdsworth (Ted) and Jennifer Smith (Marvin); son, Jesse “Jay” James Duell, III (Carol); grandchildren, Alex Duell (Jenna), James Duell, Thomas Holdsworth (Cozette) and Holden Smith; sister, Yvonne Howell (Lowell); sister-in-law, Barbara Fields; and several nieces and nephews.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved sports and spending time outdoors especially at the beach.  She loved to cook and host friends and family.  A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2022, 3- 4 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield.  A private graveside service will be held in Battery Park Cemetery.
