Barbara H. King, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep just after midnight on April 01, 2020 in Smithfield, VA. Born in Massachusetts in 1931 to Salamie H. Hassen (1910 - 1989) and Margaret D. Hassen, she had five siblings, two who predeceased her. She was predeceased by her first husband of 6 years, Thomas Wilkes, and her second husband of 45 years, Moscoe King. Left to remember Barbara are 4 grown children, Susan, Lynn, Mike, and Chris, as well as her two sisters and brother, Mary, Carol, and Charles, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
Barbara taught English in Portsmouth Public Schools for over 20 years. After her retirement from Churchland High School where she was loved by many, she continued to enjoy painting, quilting, gardening, traveling in her RV, and working in her yard. Barbara asked to be cremated. Commemorative services are not being scheduled at this time due to the coronavirus and CDC restrictions.
