Ashton Lee Wells, Sr

August 24, 1940 — August 3, 2021

Ashton Lee Wells, Sr., 80, of Ivor, VA passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.  He was the son of the late Walter Guy Wells and Virgie Jones Wells.  He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Olivia D. Wells; sons, Tony L. Wells (Amy), Ashton L. Wells, Jr (Kim), Lawrence W. Wells (Vicki) and Phillip R. Wells (Tracy); eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; four great step grandchildren; sisters, Anna Totoritis, Louise Sexton, Bernice Cook and Wilma Slayton; brothers, Guy Wells and Stoney Wells.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James P. Wells and Johnny Wells.  Ashton, known as the “Potato Man”, retired as a vegetable farmer, he loved the outdoors. Ashton was an avid hunter and fisherman, he spent countless hours in the field raising sweet potatoes and other vegetables.  You could find him anytime during the summer and fall in town selling watermelons and sweet potatoes. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 11 a.m. at Mill Swamp Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, on Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
