Ann "Dee" Elizabeth Remick

Ann Elizabeth “Dee” Remick of Portsmouth, Virginia, died peacefully, surrounded by family, at the age of
68 in Charlottesville, Virginia, from complications of leukemia on January 13, 2024. Dee is predeceased by
her mother Ann Randolph Scott Doom, her stepfather Lewis Garth Doom, and her father Nathaniel
Ferguson Remick. She is survived by her beloved wife Shirley Ann “Terry” Neal, her brother Robert
Worthington “Worth” Remick (Mary Miller Gentry), her sister-in-law Jackie Gasparini (Gene), and her
nephews, nieces, and cousins.


Dee was born on June 16, 1955, in Newport News; she graduated from Smithfield High School and the
University of South Carolina with a degree in Psychology. Dee worked in service to others throughout
her life. Starting at 16 she managed the Sykes Inn (known now as the Smithfield Inn), sang part time as
back up in a band, and worked in design and sales at Decorum Furniture. Later, she was employed for
16 years at National Emergency Services (NES) ascending to the position of Vice President and Employee
of the Year and was the Practice Manager for two different medical offices. She also owned and
operated Olde Towne News and Coffee in Downtown Portsmouth where she was famous for her
chicken salad.

Dee was kind, giving, and passionate about caring for her family and was devoted to her
wife Terry. She will be missed.

The funeral service is 2 p.m. Saturday, January 20 at Trinity Episcopal Church at 500 Court Street, Portsmouth, Virginia. Dee will be buried at St. Luke's Cemetery in Smithfield, Virginia, in a private service at a future date.
