Alberta Bowling Ferebee

April 3, 1936 — September 3, 2023

Smithfield

Alberta B. Ferebee, 87, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023 in the home she raised her children in.  She was a beacon of strength and positivity for all those who had the privilege to know her.  She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love and compassion.  Her greatest accomplishments were raising her children to be compassionate and giving individuals.  She had a special bond with each child and grandchild.  She was a hard worker and had many friends in Virginia and Greenville, NC.   She worked at the GE TV plant from 1966 to its closing in 1986.  She then worked at Surry Power Station during an outage.  In her later years she lived in Greenville, NC, where she worked with many families assisting in child care and housekeeping, where she enjoyed and built strong bonds with each family.  She lived for her children, who showed their everlasting commitment and love to her.  Alberta loved to work in her yard, she never met a plant that she could not nurture and grow.  She could turn a stick into a beautiful thriving plant, and often shared them with friends and family.  She was the daughter of the late John Everett Bowling and Callie Duncan Bowling.  She is survived by her daughters, Kathy J. Bullock and Sandra R. Johnson (Riley); sons, Carroll B. Riley and Lundy E. Riley; grandchildren, Rick, Eric, Daniel, Christopher, Jessica, Jeremy, Ben, Ashley and Lundy Wayne; 16 great grandchildren.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda C. Dunn and two grandchildren, Heather and Andrew and one great grandchild, Noah.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Littles Funeral Home, Smithfield.  Followed by a graveside service at Whiteheads Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. The family would like to express their gratitude to her exceptional caretakers, Robert Lytle, Debbie Boyd, Crystal and Margerite with Riverside Hospice, and the many health aides.  Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
