Alan Stephen Nogiec

April 18, 1949 — November 20, 2021

Alan Stephen Nogiec, 72, of Windsor passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.  Alan was born in New Britain, CT and was the son of the late Paul A. Nogiec and Marie Lowe Nogiec.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Jane Tremel Nogiec; son, Seth Nogiec (Alison); granddaughter, Madelyn Nogiec; two bonus grandsons, Devin and Miles; a brother, Robert Nogiec (Evelyn) and their sons, Jason and Adam.

Alan was a graduate of New Britain High School and Morehead State University in Morehead, KY.  It was there that he met Jane and they married on Kentucky Derby Day, May 6, 1972.  They attended the Kentucky Derby to celebrate their 17th anniversary and a horse named Silver Charm won the race the year of their 25th anniversary.  Alan loved the water and boating all of his life.  He and Jane enjoyed traveling together and were fortunate to have visited countries all over the world, too many to choose a favorite.  Alan adored his family and was known for his constant good nature, unfailing patience and diplomacy.

Upon graduation, Alan became the recreation director at Woodsbend Boys Camp, a camp for juvenile delinquent boys, in West Liberty, KY.  From there he became the first recreation director in Botetourt County, VA and later assistant director in Suffolk, VA.  His last fulltime position was Director of Parks and Recreation for Isle of Wight County, VA where he served for 28 years.  Facilities and parks grew and developed greatly under his direction.  He was most proud of being instrumental in reviving the county fair and served as manager for over a decade, proudly watching the fair expand in size and attendance each year.  After retirement Alan formed ASN Promotions and worked closely with Bobby McLamb and Artists and Attractions.  Together they booked local and national entertainment into fairs and festivals all over the country.  Being a true people person and competent organizer, it was the perfect job for him during his post retirement years.

Alan was an active member of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society for many years.  He was also a member of the Virginia Association of Fairs, serving on the board of directors and as President in 2006.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Alan will be truly missed not only by his family, but also by countless friends locally, nationally, and worldwide.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Alan’s memory to the Virginia Association of Fairs Scholarship Fund.  Checks should be made to VAF and sent to Theresa Woodall, P.O. Box 4055, Portsmouth, VA  23701.  Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
